Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about services, approach, scheduling, and working with Rooted Postpartum Care.

Care & Approach

What types of concerns do you support?

Rooted Postpartum Care supports mothers navigating postpartum depression, postpartum anxiety, emotional overwhelm, burnout, depletion, stress, nervous system dysregulation, identity changes, and the emotional transitions that can come with pregnancy and postpartum.

What makes Rooted Postpartum Care different?

Rooted Postpartum was created to provide a more grounded and restorative approach to maternal mental health care. Treatment is designed to support the whole mother by considering emotional wellness alongside nourishment, sleep, stress, nervous system health, postpartum recovery, lifestyle factors, and patterns of depletion that can develop throughout motherhood. Rooted Postpartum Care integrates specialized training in postpartum nutrition, nervous system support, and maternal recovery alongside mental health treatment.

What role does nutrition play in care at Rooted Postpartum Care?

Nutrition is an important part of postpartum recovery and emotional wellness. Many mothers enter postpartum feeling depleted from pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, sleep disruption, and the demands of caring for a new baby.

As a Certified Postpartum Nutrition Specialist, I consider factors such as nourishment, nutrient status, digestion, stress recovery, sleep, and overall maternal wellness when developing individualized treatment plans.

For some mothers, support may include education around postpartum nourishment, laboratory evaluation, targeted supplementation, lifestyle recommendations, and restorative recovery practices alongside traditional mental health care when appropriate.

Do you prescribe medication?

Yes. Medication management is available when appropriate, though Rooted Postpartum takes a thoughtful, individualized, and root-cause-informed approach to care that focuses on supporting the whole mother — not simply symptoms alone.
Medication is one tool available when needed, but nourishment, recovery, nervous system support, lifestyle factors, and root-cause exploration are also important components of care.

Treatment may include supportive therapy, nourishment-focused support, restorative lifestyle care, nervous system regulation, education, lab review, targeted supplementation, psychotherapy collaboration, and thoughtful medication management when appropriate as part of a broader healing approach.

Do I have to take medication?

No. Every treatment plan is individualized. While medication can absolutely play an important role for some mothers, Rooted Postpartum Care recognizes the importance of nourishment, nervous system support, sleep, stress recovery, restorative care, and sustainable healing practices as part of emotional wellness during the postpartum season. Nourishment and root cause exploration take precedent.

Do you work with breastfeeding mothers?

Yes. Rooted Postpartum Care offers thoughtful, individualized support for mothers who are breastfeeding, with a focus on nourishment, nervous system health, stress recovery, sleep, and whole-mother wellness during the postpartum season.

Care may also include exploring potential underlying contributors to symptoms such as mood changes, anxiety, exhaustion, or decreased milk supply, including nutritional depletion, digestion and gut health, lifestyle factors, and the physical demands of postpartum recovery and breastfeeding.

Appointments & Logistics

Are appointments virtual?

Yes. All appointments are currently offered virtually only for mothers located in Maryland, Washington DC, and Wyoming.

How do virtual appointments work?

Appointments are conducted securely through a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform and are intended to function similarly to in-office visits. Clients will receive intake paperwork and appointment instructions prior to their scheduled visit.

Please sign in on time for your appointment, as late arrival may require rescheduling depending on scheduling availability. Clients are encouraged to ensure they have a reliable internet connection and to test their device camera and microphone prior to their session whenever possible. A quiet, private space is recommended for appointments.

Where are you licensed?

Why doesn’t Rooted Postpartum Care accept insurance?

Rooted Postpartum is a private-pay practice intentionally designed to provide more personalized, thoughtful, and whole-mother care than is often possible within traditional insurance-based models.

By remaining out-of-network, appointments are able to allow more time for individualized support, deeper conversations around emotional wellness, nourishment, postpartum recovery, nervous system health, lifestyle factors, and restorative approaches to care.

This model also allows for greater flexibility in treatment planning and helps support a more intentional and relationship-centered approach to maternal mental health care.

Superbills may be available for clients seeking potential out-of-network reimbursement through their insurance provider, although reimbursement is not guaranteed.

Is a credit card required to book appointments?

Yes. A valid credit card is required to remain securely on file for scheduling purposes, including appointment fees, missed appointments, late cancellation charges, and any applicable administrative or paperwork fees as outlined in practice policies and intake documentation.

Rooted Postpartum values transparency regarding scheduling and financial policies, and additional details will be reviewed prior to beginning services.

What are your rates?

Initial 90-Minute Evaluation: $395
Follow-Up 30-Minute Appointments: $175
Extended Follow-Up 60- Minute Appointment: $275

The Foundations Package includes an initial evaluation, two follow-up visits, a basic postpartum laboratory panel, postpartum nutrition resources, personalized recovery recommendations, and secure messaging support between visits.

How often will we meet?

Appointment frequency is individualized based on each mother’s needs, symptoms, and stage of treatment. Some mothers may initially benefit from more frequent support, while others may transition to less frequent follow-up appointments over time.

What if I arrive late to my appointment?

Appointment times are reserved specifically for each client. If you arrive late, sessions will still end at the scheduled time to avoid delaying care for other clients.

Initial evaluations and follow-up appointments may have different grace periods depending on appointment length and scheduling availability.

What is your cancellation policy?

Appointment times are reserved specifically for each client. To help maintain availability for all mothers seeking care, cancellations or appointment changes require at least 48 business hours notice. Missed appointments and late cancellations may be subject to the full appointment fee. Additional scheduling and practice policies will be reviewed prior to beginning services.
